Frequently asked questions
- When is the T2 corporate return due?
- Six months after the end of the fiscal year, under paragraph 150(1)(a) of the Income Tax Act. For a December 31 year end, the T2 is due the following June 30. The date rolls to the next business day if it falls on a Saturday, Sunday or statutory holiday.
- Is the tax balance due at the same time as the return?
- No, and this is the most expensive mistake. The balance is due two months after year end (three months for an eligible Canadian-controlled private corporation), so before the return. Paying on time without filing does not avoid the late-filing penalty, and filing on time without paying does not avoid interest.
- How often must I file GST and QST?
- It depends on your annual taxable supplies: monthly, quarterly or annually. A monthly or quarterly return is due one month after the period ends; an annual return, three months after year end. In Quebec, Revenu Québec administers the GST: it is a single combined return with one confirmation number.
- When are T4 slips and RL-1 slips due?
- The last day of February, for the preceding calendar year. These are two distinct filings, each with its own confirmation number: the T4 to the Canada Revenue Agency and the RL-1 to Revenu Québec.
- Are the dates in this tool reliable?
- The federal rules are checked section by section against the Income Tax Act and its regulations, and the reference is shown next to each deadline. Quebec rules are marked “to confirm”: the Revenu Québec and Enterprise Registrar sites refuse automated access, so they could not be verified against an official text. Confirm them before relying on them.
- Is my data stored?
- No. The whole calculation runs in your browser. No answer is sent to a server, and nothing is saved.
